Today, find a newspaper and skim the headlines--the big headlines but also headlines to the not-so-prominent stories.
Choose one headline and write your own story to go with it. Your story doesn't need to be true in any way to the actual newspaper story; you're using the headline as a starting point.
Make sure your story has:
- a protagonist (hero/heroine/main character)
- an antagonist (the main person who gets in the protagonist's way)
- a dialogue between the protagonist and antagonist
This story should not be longer than 750 words. I recommend writing quickly and not thinking about it too much. Don't worry about if it's good or not. Today you are generating the raw material that you'll work with for most of the remaining retreat.
